The Johnsons have been friends of mine since they moved to Northern MN when I was in high school. Kim and I went on youth group mission trips together with her daddy as one of our leaders! And then we both ended up as missionaries ourselves. Miss Kim is preparing to very soon head out to Senegal to work with a ministry to street boys there and I am so excited for all that God has in store to use her precious heart in and to bless her precious heart with.
But this session was special not only because it was for sweet friends of mine, but because it was really a celebration of family through adoption! The Johnson’s oldest son Mark and his beautiful wife Jenny have JUST completed the adoption process to take 2 precious little girls into their home, making their family of 4 a family of 6! After numerous miscarriages between their oldest (age 7) and youngest (age 1), Mark and Jenny believe their new 5 and 3 year old daughters entering their family are like God restoring the years the locusts had eaten. Their new daughters were basically dropped at their doorstep a little over a year ago, and almost immediately, as they took them in and fostered them and loved them, it was clear that they really were a part of their family. When they came up for adoption, it was obvious where they belonged 🙂
Adoption stirs my heart. It’s a very real picture of what God does for us, adopting us as His own when we trust in the work Jesus did on the cross for our redemption. I have had the awesome privilege of working with orphans in various countries around the world, and some day my husband and I hope to adopt some of our children too!
